Glaneuses et Vers de Terre
Glaneuses et Vers de Terre starts from the impulse of cultivating other ways of
relating to landscapes. Landscape can be understood like a ‘spectacle’, something to observe
from the ‘outside’. But it can also be experienced as something one is absorbed by. In this
project, we develop artistic gestures that help understand our bodies in connection with the
soils and skies. We are inspired by the idea of ‘living off landscape’ (vivre de paysage), understanding it as
unlimited resources for contemplation, sensorial experiences, and dreams.
In line with the
vision of the landscape as a whole, we seek for what grows just beyond the
edges, past the horizon: what grows on the side. Concretely, this means we are bending over
to look for wild edible plants. We observe these plants (often not desired in controlled urban
contexts) and, informed by a botanist we follow their tracks. We let these plants guide us. Our
interest in what grows on the side is also a social concern. We are informed and
learn from groups of people who live differently than from standardized paths.
